Marriage Misdemeanors

Anyone who has ever shared living spaces with someone else, knows how taxing cohabitation with someone else, even under the best of circumstances, can be. All it takes to get your day started off wrong is a small, thoughtless gesture or two. Whoever gets up first stands a good chance of ruining the other person's day. If your mate awakens to find you failed, once again to rinse the toothpaste out of the sink, left water all over the bathroom floor, left spilled Cheerios on the counter, or replaced a milk carton with barely enough milk to lighten the color of coffee, you've just succeeded in getting their day off to a bad start. The same rule holds true in the evening time. If you get home an hour before your spouse and they arrive to find no dinner plans started or dirty dishes in the sink, while you have your feet propped up watching the news or talking on the phone, you're setting the stage for a rocky evening.

The misdemeanors of marriage add up very quickly. The book you've been reading in the bathroom suddenly disappears. The last muffin you've been saving is gone. Your favorite shirt is still in the dirty laundry. These things can set you off without warning and they can do no less to your mate!

Never forget to look at your marriage through your mate's eyes. A little preventative maintenance can go a long way. If you know your wife hates it when you leave the lid up, PUT IT DOWN! If you know using your husbands' razor will send him into a tirade, GET YOUR OWN RAZOR!

Yes, it takes a little extra effort, but you're married now. The time for being lazy is over! Avoiding these little marriage misdemeanors will not only avoid conflict, but they will also be rewarded in kind. Your mate may not notice at first that you are making extra effort to be a good living companion, but eventually it will sink in and your extra effort will pay off in ways you can't even imagine.
